The Search for Cold Sore Remedies: New Research Reveals How Cold Sores Wreak Havoc On The Social Lives Of Millions

Cold sores have been wreaking havoc on people’s social lives forever. Cold sore remedies have been sought out like the Holy Grail. Unfortunately, they always crop up at the worst times: when you’re about ready to go on a date or need to give a speech in front of a group of people.

There are several cold sore remedies out there that bring relief, or even prevent, cold sores. But there is no known cure. In other words, the herpes simplex virus is “the gift that keeps on giving”.

However, recently, a group of researchers at the University of Kentucky, USA, have identified the roles that the proteins of the HSV-1 virus play during the invasion of cells. Of course, when this occurs, it forms the embarrassing cold sores and fever blisters that make you want to stay home and watch movies instead.

Here’s how it works: the virus attaches to the cell surface and two proteins are triggered to absorb into the membrane of the cell. As this happens, the third protein gains access to the cell; thus providing access to the cell.
